Brian Stanley Foster (1927-2013)

Brian Stanley Foster’s final job as clerk to the justices for Grantham Magistrates, belies the fact he was a young athlete.

Brian was the son of tobacconist and barber Coun Stanley Foster and Rachel Blower who lived at 5 Westgate before the Second World War. (Their eldest son John married Gladys Herriot, both of whom became mayors of Grantham).

Brian won a Swimming  Blue for St John’s College. Cambridge University in July 1946. He was also in their water polo team.

He was an officer cadet and become 2nd Lt in the Lincolnshire Regiment in Dec 1947.

In 1979 he retired as Deputy Hon Colonel, the Royal Anglican Regiment (Lincolnshire) TAVR retaining the honorary rank of colonel.

He was also Deputy Lieutenant of Lincolnshire.

He qualified as a solicitor and worked for Ernest Godson of Sleaford, before being appointed clerk to the magistrates at Grantham Court.
