Fly-tippers put off by CCTV cameras

November 8, 2015 by Grantham Matters Leave a Comment

CCTV cameras are continuing to deter fly-tippers at rubbish hotspots in South Kesteven.

Cameras were installed last year at Green Lane in Welby, on the Grantham Canal between Earlesfield Lane and Swingbridge Road and at a  lay-by on the A52 at Swaton and they have brought a big reduction in cases of fly-tipping.Camera located between Trent Road and Swingbridge Road

But SKDC wants residents to continue to feedback information on fly-tipping and littering, wherever it is in the district by reporting it online at www.southkesteven.gov.uk

Householders are also reminded of the authority’s bulk item collection service when disposing of bigger waste items, with collection available for £12.

Mobile cameras are also in operation in other locations in the district so fly-tippers face an increasing risk of being caught and receiving a heavy fine.

SKDC’s Executive Manager for Environment Ian Yates said: “Every household and business has a responsibility to dispose of rubbish in the correct manner.

“We monitor locations across the district whether via fixed or mobile cameras, noting car registration plates and we will always consider prosecution for anyone we identify who dumps waste anywhere in South Kesteven.”

Householders are also reminded they have a legal duty of care to ensure their waste from activities such as building work are correctly disposed of.

Residents should check that any person or business employed to carry out work at their property has a waste carriers’ licence and should ask to see documentation before agreeing to work being carried out.

The council thanks those residents who report businesses who do not provide the necessary documentation.
