Duchess the podcast

February 12, 2021 by Grantham Matters Leave a Comment

Duchess the podcast has been heralded as ‘warm, emotional, compelling and fascinating’ by critics and media alike.

Behind every great estate, there is a matriarch whose story has largely been forgotten by history and overlooked by popular period dramas.

Listen in to the recently launched Duchess podcast as the  Duchess of Rutland takes the microphone and meets with 10 ladies who are the custodians and carers of some of the most important and historic houses in Britain. For the very first time you’ll be hearing the real stories of managing and maintaining our national heritage.

The project was the brainchild of the Duchess’s eldest daughter, Lady Violet Manners who came up with the idea whilst studying at UCLA in Los Angeles.

The unique view this Podcast offers is the personal connection between Emma, Duchess of Rutland, and the incredible Ladies who run some of the UK’s finest stately homes. Her Grace will host a fireside chat with her peers offering a glimpse behind the gilded curtain and into their real and extraordinary lives.

The focus of the listener is drawn by better understanding the remarkable women at the helm and the work they get up to behind the doors of the national treasures they call home. The listener will discover more about the guest and the business of their home. They’ll cover the abundant history of the family, the role these places play in the local community to this day, insightful and funny historic family stories, and importantly they dive into the personal stories of the remarkable women who’ve shaped the very fabric of their homes from the past.

Introducing our host Emma, Duchess of Rutland

I’m eager to share just what remarkable women are at the helm of the stately homes around the UK and the work they get up to behind those doors as custodians of British heritage. I know all too well the hard work it takes and the work we do day today to find the delicate balance between preservation and transformation’
– Emma Rutland, the 11 th Duchess of Rutland at the family seat, BelvoirCastle.
