Lincolnshire county council has announced it has started the procurement process for its provision of food waste processing and transportation service contract.

The contract will run for five years starting 1 September 2025 with the option for the council to extend the contract twice for periods of up to two years to a maximum of nine years.
Under the contract, the supplier will be expected to collect food waste for transportation from waste transfer stations for transportation to their facility for processing. Food waste may be presented either loosely or contained within bags or other packaging, and the supplier is responsible for collecting and managing it in whichever form it is presented.
Lots
According to the procurement notice, the contract will be separated into two lots – North and South – and suppliers can bid for one or both lots.
Lot 1 – North includes Waste Transfer Stations in Louth, Gainsborough and Lincoln. The Council plans to transition from co-mingling food waste with residual waste to separate collections by 2025. The phased approach will begin with Gainsborough and Sleaford Waste Transfer Stations commencing separate weekly Food Waste collections in autumn 2025, followed by the remaining five waste collection authorities starting collections throughout winter 2025, with all collecting food waste by March 31, 2026.
Lot 2 – South comprises Waste Transfer Stations in Sleaford, Grantham and Boston and follows the same transition plan as Lot 1.
