College backs junior Gingerbreads

September 23, 2014 by Grantham Matters Leave a Comment

GRANTHAM College is the official sponsors of the Gingerbread Soccer School.

The soccer school which is headed up by Keith Horton, Chief Executive of Grantham Town Football Club and a team of FA qualified coaches including Paul Teare, is open to both girls and boys aged 6-16 of all abilities.

Paul is a Level 2 FA qualified coach, who is DBS checked and Safeguarding of children qualified. The other coaches that assist all hold a minimum FA qualified Level 1 certificate and a DBS check.

The aim of the sessions, which are on a six-week rota basis, are to get children out in the fresh air, learn team skills as well as learning football themes such as passing, dribbling, attacking, defending, shooting and heading-these sessions can then lead into junior matches.

The first session for this year started last Saturday, 20 September, although first ran last year, the team are wanting to increase the numbers they saw last year from 100 children to 200 this year.

Mr Horton said: “The club during the 2014/15 season are celebrating their 140th Anniversary and we are extremely pleased to partner with Grantham College to deliver a Football in the Community scheme.

“The Club is committed to building strong partnerships with a wide range of Grantham organisations from both the private and public sector to deliver initiatives to the wide cross section of the Grantham community.Footballer

“We look forward to welcoming both boys and girls of all abilities to the ground on a Saturday morning to enjoy the fun of football in a safe and secure environment.”

The soccer school runs on a Saturday morning 10.30am -11.30am on the pitches at the rear of Grantham Town Football stadium with the next 6 week rota starting Saturday 1 November. Each child will be presented with a certificate at the end of the 6 week as well as receiving a t-shirt at the start.

Grantham College Graphic Design students were briefed by the college’s Marketing & Media Officer Laura Taylor just 2 weeks ago to design a brand for the soccer school as they are currently brand less.

The students have been working hard to design a logo that will appeal to the target age group though keeping within the Grantham Town FC colours. The brand will be added to materials for the soccer school for the next group of children in November.

If you are interested in your child/children attending the soccer school simply turn up to the stadium on 1 November where you will be asked to fill out a short questionnaire before the children start the first session.
