Colclough, Katie – Retired aged 23

April 11, 2018 by Grantham Matters Leave a Comment

Katie Colclough (b1990)

Katie Amanda Colclough is a retired English road and track cyclist from Frieston near Caythorpe and a former member of British Cycling’s Olympic Development Squad.

She began cycling competitively in 2004 and the following year she was selected to ride for British Cycling’s Talent Team. She joined the Olympic Development Programme in 2006.

In 2008-2009 she rode with Team Halfords Bikehut. In 2011, she signed with the professional team HTC–Highroad Women (now known as Velocio–SRAM Pro Cycling).

Katie was part of the Specialized-lululemon squad which won the team time trial at the 2013 UCI Road World Championships, where she announced that she would be retiring from the sport after the road race

She achieved a host of medals on the track at senior World Cup level, in team pursuit and points race events, despite her youth and the fact that she was still be at U23 level until 2013.

On the road, her most impressive result was silver at the U23 European Road Race Championships at the age of nineteen. In that race she attacked boldly with a lap of the course to go, and held off a late surge from Marianne Vos to get the silver medal. She has also placed second in the U23 British Road Race championship in both 2009 and 2010.

Her positive results were rewarded with a professional contract at the HTC-Highroad team for 2011, a commitment which she plans to balance with her track cycling and her longer-term aim of the 2012 London Olympics.
