Lakshmi Narayan Chakrabarti (1930-2016)
Dr Lakshmi Narayan Chakrabarti was born in East Bengal and graduated as a doctor in Calcutta before coming to the UK in 1967. He worked first in Yorkshire, then moved to Lincoln and on to Grantham, where he served as a registrar.
After achieving a Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh, he became a consultant at Grantham, and in the 1980s was appointed the first consultant in charge of A&E at the hospital. He retired in 1995, but continued to support every campaign against the downgrading of his old department.
Away from medicine, he was a keen bridge player, playing at the former George Hotel and later at the Town and Country Club.
Dr Chakrabarti died after collapsing at his Harlaxton Road home, and was taken to Lincoln Hospital.
