CCTV cuts fly-tipping

November 21, 2014 by Grantham Matters Leave a Comment

Green Lane Welby (1)

Green Lane,  Welby

CCTV is helping to reduce fly-tipping in South Kesteven at locations across the district.

SKDC has installed cameras in both urban and rural areas, including at a previous fly-tipping hot spot on Green Lane in Welby.

Since cameras were installed at this site 12 months ago there have been no incidents, and other sites including lay-bys in the district, have seen a decrease in discarded items.

SKDC’s Operations Director Ian Yates said: “CCTV is only one way to help deter those who persist in making parts of our district an eyesore.

“Our clean and green and recycling campaigns continue to educate and make our residents and visitors to the district aware of why it is unacceptable to drop any items, large or small.

“Residents who act as our extra eyes and ears are helping us drive down problems in certain areas and we thank them for their continued support.

“It is still the responsibility of everyone to dispose of their waste correctly, recycle as much as they can and use our Household Waste Recycling Centres in Grantham, Bourne and our mobile service in Stamford.

“We always seek to work with residents but as our previous convictions have highlighted we will always consider prosecution of those who flout the rules.”

Anyone who witnesses problems with litter or fly-tipping should call SKDC on 01476 40 60 80 or email ehs@southkesteven.gov.uk
