Calling all teachers!

July 25, 2021 by Grantham Matters Leave a Comment

Are you struggling to bring history alive?  Looking to refresh or renew how you deliver history sessions in the classroom?  Stumped when it comes to finding affordable and relevant school trips?  Then why not let Heritage Lincolnshire bring the history directly to you?

Operating in the county for 30 years, Heritage Lincolnshire is a charitable trust dedicated to exploring, sharing, and celebrating the fantastic history and archaeology of the historic county of Lincolnshire.  Their Community Heritage Team have just launched a brand-new programme of hands-on history workshops available to schools within the county.  Focusing on the required topics covered by the National Curriculum from Key Stages 1 –3, this is the first phase of their education programme refresh.  Opportunities for Key Stage 4 and above including work experience, student placements and wider life-long learning are due to come onstream in early 2022.

School workshop topics are tailored to provide a natural progression by developing historical skills and, at KS2 and above, thinking about linking curriculum learning to careers. Workshops can be offered as a ½ day or whole day option and delivered in the classroom by DBS checked staff who happen to be real-life archaeologists!  This means they bring with them a variety of real and replica artefacts for students to see, touch and investigate.  Pick from workshops focusing on historical or archaeological skills, or those which look at chronological periods; both use the rich and unique heritage of Lincolnshire as their inspiration.

Whilst there is a fee for this service, Heritage Lincolnshire have tried to make this as affordable as they can for schools working with tight budgets.  For those looking for an even more cost-effective way to offer several workshops to a variety of year groups, then their new School’s Membership Service with three different levels of engagement may also prove a winner.  Pick from Bronze, Silver or Gold Membership; all come with added extras for both pupils and teachers.

Senior Manager, Gail Graham said, “We have worked within schools for many years, tailoring our workshops to deliver maximum benefit for pupils and teachers.  This re-launch of our heritage education programme has provided an ideal opportunity to bring all our workshops together, update our offer and, through a soft launch working with a small number of schools, listen and respond to feedback from teachers.  This has ensured our content is relevant, engaging, accessible and enjoyable!”

So, if you are planning for the new academic year, why not include a visit from one of their team to liven up that rainy day classroom session.  Contact them for more information on 01529 461499, learning@heritagelincolnshire.org or browse their workshops, Membership Service details, costs and booking information at https://www.heritagelincolnshire.org/learn-with-us/schools
