FROM next month, visitors to Belvoir Castle will be able to enjoy free parking for the duration of their visit.
To access free parking, visitors will need to pay an initial parking fee of £2 which can be claimed back against their castle entry, at the Belvoir Bistro or any other food and beverage facilities at the Castle during their visit.
The new parking offer will be trialled for the foreseeable future following feedback from the local community, and comes ahead of the return of the castle’s popular May Day Garden Party, which takes place from 10:00am-5:00pm on 4-6 May.

The upcoming Bank Holiday event will also see locals living within a seven-mile radius able to enjoy free entry to the three-day event, which will feature a host of family activities. These include food and entertainment for all the community to enjoy, set in the iconic grounds of the Vale of Belvoir historic home.
Aside from locals living near the Leicestershire landmark, general admission tickets will be available to purchase at a discounted rate of 10% off until 3 May at 10pm. Tickets will remain free for children under three years old, and are currently available for £9 for children older than three years old, £25.20 for adults, £21.60 for concessions, and £57.60 for family tickets.
There will also be an exclusive VIP Area for those with a Friends of Belvoir Castle annual pass, which grants unlimited access to the castle, parkland and gardens year-round.
The Duchess of Rutland, said: “Having listened to recent feedback from the local community around our parking charges, we’ve made the decision to trial free car parking, with visitors able to claim a £2 parking fee back against their castle entry, activities at the castle or at the Engine Yard. The local community has always been really important to us, and we wanted to show that we’ve listened to their concerns and made a change.
“We’re really passionate about making Belvoir Castle as enjoyable and accessible for all as possible. The new parking initiative is one of many ways we’re helping to do that, as it essentially makes parking free of charge for all our visitors. However, we’ve also made the decision to offer local residents living within seven miles of the castle the opportunity to join us in celebrating the May Bank Holiday for free, during our annual weekend of family fun.

“As a way to say thank you and give back to our loyal visitors, this year’s event will also see the launch of a special exclusive VIP Area for those with a Friends of Belvoir Castle membership. It’s set to be a fantastic weekend and we can’t wait to welcome friends new and old.”
Designed with the whole family in mind, during Belvoir Castle’s May Bank Holiday event, visitors will be able to experience the charm of Morris dancers and live music, peruse market stalls filled with treats from local businesses and indulge in a range of delicious food and drink. Meanwhile children will be able to unleash their inner creativity in the crafts tent and take part in children’s games.
As a new addition this year, green-thumbed guests will also be able to immerse themselves in the world of horticulture at the Gardener Talks sessions, hosted by seasoned gardener Jonathan Moseley. Perfect for both beginners and seasoned enthusiasts, guests will learn the tips and tricks of how to cultivate a vibrant, thriving garden and the intricacies of nurturing green spaces.
