AN iron dredging barge hauled by a Fowler B6 road locomotive brought traffic to a standstill in October 1933.
The boat, made by Gwynnes Pumps of Lincoln, was on its way to London. Although railway operator LNER was charged with the move, it was far too big to move by rail.
The cargo was too big to bring through Chapel Street and had to go by Brownlow Street and Broad Street before turning on to the Great North Road in North Street to continue its journey through town.
