‘BRIDGE’ is an outdoor arts, engineering and social change project led by specialists in outdoor arts, Imagineer Productions, which will showcase in a largescale event in Grantham this September followed by Coventry and then Worcester in 2020.
Imagineer, based in Coventry – the UK’s City of Culture 2021 – is working with SKDC, Invest SK and a team of local producers, Claire Carrington, Georgina Weller and Simon Hollingworth, all of whom have previously worked on Grantham’s Gravity Fields Festival.
To kick-start the project this April, the Grantham-based BRIDGE team have commissioned local artists Louise Jones & Nadya Monfrinoli to create a Community Bridge with the help of people across South Kesteven through a series of art workshops. When complete, the Community Bridge will tour the district to help generate interest and excitement for the BRIDGE project in September.
Monday 15 April Deeping Community Centre 12noon – 5pm
The workshops are free, open to all ages and will be happening:
Wednesday 17 April Bourne Town Hall 12noon – 5pm
Thursday 18 April Grantham Guildhall Arts Centre 12noon – 5pm
The Community Bridge will consist of a series of triangular panels that the public can help decorate using fun, simple stencilling and printing techniques. Each workshop is a drop-in event, so people can stay for as little or as long they like, and there will also be a mini-bridge building challenge for budding engineers.
In addition, the team will be hosting three early-evening creative networking socials open to anyone interested in finding out more about BRIDGE and other cultural & creative activities across South Kesteven.
The networking socials will be happening:
Monday 15 April The Deeping Stage, Market Place 5pm – 7pm
Wednesday 17 April Bourne Town Hall 5pm – 7pm
Thursday 18 April Cinco Lounge, Grantham 5pm – 7pm
Anyone interested in attending a networking event can email Simon Hollingworth stating their interest: simon@mrholly.co.uk
The completed Community Bridge will be unveiled on Friday 26 April at St Wulfram’s Church in Grantham, between 5pm and 7pm, in a special event. This event will introduce the September Bridge Project to a wider audience and include food, a bar, live art from international street artist Mohammed Ali and a specially commissioned film capturing the Community Bridge Workshops.
The Community Bridge will be on display in St Wulfram’s from 29 April to 15 May before touring around the district.
The local BRIDGE team will also be producing a series of community-based events around Imagineers’ large-scale, outdoor spectacular between 7 and 14 September. If you would like to get involved, please contact the Grantham Bridge Team.

BACKGROUND From Imagineer Productions
Imagineer is a live events production company. We specialise in making theatre and outdoor performance, education programmes, special commissions and touring. At the heart of our work is an exploration of the relationship between creative thinkers and innovators from the arts sector and creative engineers, architects, educationalists, special effects artists and designers.
Imagineer is best known for its landmark Cultural Olympiad project Godiva Awakes, in which a 20m tall puppet of Lady Godiva journeyed to London by bicycle. We also produce the annual Festival of Imagineers in Coventry, an annual celebration of innovation.
During 2019 South Kesteven is going to be hosting a very exciting arts, engineering and community project called ‘Bridge’.
The aim of the project is to bring people from different backgrounds, neighbourhoods and communities together through a wide range of outdoor arts, engineering activities and community events that will be held across the district culminating in ‘Grantham Bridge Week’ that will take place from 7 – 15 September.
A large billboard advertises Bridge in Grantham town centre. A giant Bridge arrives but it has a big five metre gap at the top: the keystone is missing. We don’t know if it is broken or unfinished – we are invited to imagine what has happened. The Bridge is beautiful by day and illuminated at night. The Bridge project is about the effort, courage and imagination of people needed to connect across the gap, to build bridges across divides.
