Recent high water levels along the River Witham in Grantham have unearthed a surprising amount of #vintagelitter, highlighting the enduring impact of discarded items.
Among the debris recovered by the volunteers of Grantham Rivercare are:

A Key Markets carrier bag (at least 42 years old!)
A Strike Cola can (part of)

A Consort Cola Can (possibly from the 1970s)

A Diet Pepsi Can (from the 1980s)

But the most intriguing find was a thin-necked glass bottle inscribed with “Imperial, Pick & Company, Westgate, Grantham.”
Research revealed William Pick, a merchant from Caythorpe (born in 1813), once operated a shop at 90 Westgate. The shop later became Fletchers, Market Cross and more recently, Obligos. The bottle is likely over 150 years old, a poignant reminder that littering is a long-standing issue.

These discoveries underscore the importance of responsible waste disposal and the lasting impact of litter on our environment.
