Great! Tinkering with your car on a Saturday morning, needing some plugs and points just nip down to Pollards you knew he would have them in stock. Mind you there was more dust in that shop than in my moms hoover, somehow it didn’t matter. Pollards along with Nobby Clarke’s scrap yard kept many a car on the road long past the sell by date.

Long before it was Pollards, I remember it as a bakery and cake shop as well as grocery store. Couple of names come to mind, Knights or Templeman’ s one was here on Norton st and the other was on Wharf road.

Used to walk home from school up the cut towards the train station. Used to be a small sweet shop on the right as I remember.
