Be good to find out the answer on this! I see the church behind of St Johns? That big “sheeted” roof/building looks like GRS workshops, but the church would not be there? & I do not recognise the two roofed building behind? Umn! Hope we get an answer! Not going to leave without a guess though! playing fields behind or near Alexandra Road? Tony.
I’m pretty sure this is in the playing field at the end of Tyndall Road, off Greenhill road. I lived on Greenhill Road at the time. The event being to celebrate the Queen’s Silver Jubilee. The tall chap in the centre could be John Hedworth, Gasfitter. I recognise one of the ladies – the one to the right of the picture, leaning forward – but her name escapes me at present. I was there – took part in the knobbly knees competition, judged by Betty Widdowson – pleased to say I didn’t win.
@anthony jackson ;>) Hey up mate! You could be right! I was taking in that we can see the mast @ Spitlegate & I not sure it would be there looking from Tyndall? even if we could see that from there! I don’t know mate! That big sheeted roof got me? never know Anthony? someone may put us out our misery! what a result on them knees boy! well done!
John Hedworth was more than just a gas fitter. Great guitarist in the Witham Valley Stompers.
And yes, having found a similar picture I do believe it is Greenhill Road
