Nicky is now an advanced motor bike driving instructor. After moving to Gt Yarmouth Chris’s driving habits never improved and with me on the back of his chop he decided not to stop and rode off like a headless chicken dumping the bike with out warning shouting leggit. 🤣 The result was 23 penalty points and a £1000 fine …….. this was 1983 😕 since then he has calmed down a lot the last police stop he was clocked at 134 mph on his v8 merc trike. If they stopped him earlier he was doing in excess of 160 mph on the A14. Chris now restrics his excess speeds to Bonniville Salt Flats in the USA, and I had to stand in the kitchen listening to the sound of his supercharged Indian firing up in his work shop.
Greeves says
@erinsmum2:>) You loved that Indian surely! ! ha ha! Pleased too hear “Nick” Ok he was trained in the “Hills & Hollows’ on an old yellow 650 A10 BSA! (ex Bro Chris stock) by Chris & Yoey! ha ha I was mere spectator! Guess “Brandreth” was sneaking about the bushes’ trying too keep a low profile but giving his self away “giggling” like he did Ha ha! That fella alway’s laughing! & nearly as mad as Mr Ireland! His Dad was never too happy when he lent Chris”B” his Original Ford Classic GT! one on it’s own that old car! Chris “B” drove it like’ it was a “Stock Lotus Cortina” Dont think he ever “bent” it though! every’other car on the road was a race for Chris “B” in the Day! Good job Daddy Brandreth’ did not know! Honest young uns would never know what they were like in the day!

Went to school with Chris he was a brilliant artist with a pen or pencil, I remember him copying a drawing of the insides of a plane!
erinsmum2 says
Chris vividly remembers it. It was a cessner or something similar and he drew the whole plane. It was at the King’s School. Does any one remember Fatty Hayse’s or Chris’s best mate Chris Brandreth? Talking of the King’s School any one remember some of the teachers like Bomber and Tinny. Did you ever know about Chris’s impromptue return to the quadrangle in his Chevrolet Comaro? Chris always compares the King’s School to the school in the Malcolm McDowell’s film “IF” Chris is immensly proud and privalaged to have been educated at the King’s School.
Chris B says
I was at primary and grammar school with Chris. His analogy of The Kings School with the film IF is absolutely spot on and I’ve used this many times to describe to friends what life was like at the school. I remember Chris and myself getting in to all manner of scrapes. One time he hung from a metal beam, 12 or 15 feet above Bomber Whitley’s desk and proceeded to navigate, monkey-like, across the form room. Bomber came in and made him hang there while he administered a cricket bat to his backside. Never flinched once and was still hanging after the hiding. Unbelievably, met him in 1972 on the A1 at Hatfield where he had broken down and had to get home to Grantham in second gear!
I remember Tinny, Gag, Skep, Moses, Horseface and many many more plus Gabby Hayes, Twist, Gribb and the late Kev Elliott. Happy days? Not sure about that one……………………………………… Chris [Batty] Bolton
