What to do in an Emergency

May 12, 2025 by Grantham Matters Leave a Comment

Coun Charmaine Morgan says…

The other night a number of Town and Parish Councillors went to a joint presentation by SKDC and LCC on Emergency Planning.

Some key messages came out of our session:-

1. It is the responsibility of each of us to assess the our risks and be prepared in advance of an emergency.

2. Where this is not possible help is at hand…just ask.

3. It is vital if you are in emergency eg flood, fire or other incident that you do not rely on social media for help but instead call 999. This will trigger a series of organisations to act. Social media is not considered reliable and is not referred to by our emergency services during an incident.

4. All town and parish councils have a vital role to play assessing and mitigating against risk before any incidents and providing key support during an incident.

To be successful communities must work together and it is best if we work across town council wards and neighbouring wards to draft our plans and act in an emergency.

We also had an update on recent flooding of the River Witham. The investigation is due to be completed in July.
