To those whose journey home along the B1188 on Wednesdy was slowed by RCAT between Dunston and Metheringham tea time, police say they won’t apologise.
This is why..
PC Green was dispatched to deal with an injured deer in the road in the ‘hollow’ that had been struck by a car, Lincolnshire Deer Group had also been called. Instead of just driving through and carrying on.. He walked the stretch of road checking the over grown verges however was unable to find the injured deer.
His attention was caught by a damaged BT cable culvert at the side of the road.
On closer investigation 4, day old ducklings were found stuck in the water several feet under ground.
There then came the task of the rescue.
Two nearby local residents and a gamekeeper from near Sleaford who responded to a personal plea for assistance from the officer got together and with a team effort rescued the four youngsters. Without a doubt these ducklings would have died along with other siblings that would have been attracted to the distress calls.
