Monday’s heavy rain and thaw brought devastating flooding to Grantham.
Yesterday, Grantham Rivercare’s incredible volunteers sprang into action!
Operation Debris: They kicked off the day with a community clean-up, inspired by amazing volunteer Paula.
Hot Drinks for Heroes: Hot drinks were provided to our tireless clean-up crews at the RiverCare hub in Wyndham Park.
The RiverCare team also acted as a mobile tea/coffee trolley, bringing warmth and support to families affected by flooding on Belton Lane.
Riverside Inspection: Co-leads David and Ian, joined by RiverCare BeachCare Officer Sally, conducted a riverside inspection, collecting 9 bags of litter, including some truly vintage finds (like 24 and 42-year-old shopping bags!).
Plastic Bead Crisis: Sadly, they discovered thousands of plastic beads polluting the river. The source? A large split garden bean bag! They’re working on the best approach to clean up this environmental disaster safely and effectively.
The news is that power and utilities are back on in Belton Lane. Our thoughts are with the residents as they continue their recovery.
