Villagers in Great Ponton are campaigning against plans for a 270,000-bird poultry unit submitted to South Kesteven District Council.
They claim odour noise, contamination of the will affect village life, especially being close to the local school.
There was a small proest outside the school gates on Thursday morning.
The unit would include workers‘ dwelling , six poultry sheds, feed bins, heat exchangers, a water tank, pump house, a generator, storage barn and associated infrastructure provision and improvements to access to the site from Ermine Street.
The area of the proposed development site is 4.7 acres, located 1.5km to the north east from the centre of Great Ponton, which is currently being used as an agricultural field. It is also part of the wider field network which is bounded by High Dyke to the east and Dallygate Lane to the south.
The planning applications claims the site is considered to be the most suitable for a poultry unit given its distance away from residential properties and the surrounding road network providing it with good transport access to the region’s road network.
The applicant says it will offer local employment opportunities.
One villager told GM: “We get as many people to oppose this as much as possible!
“The village cannot cope this the extra traffic flow and the residents and school will be affected!”
