South Kesteven District Council is conducting a review of the Council Tax Support Scheme to help low-income households ahead of the 2027/28 tax year.
Residents are invited to comment on whether they agree with the way the Council applies discretionary discounts to Council Tax bills – and whether the scheme can be improved.
The level of support given is calculated based on income and personal circumstances.
Cllr Bridget Ley, Cabinet Member for Finance, said: “The Council Tax Support Scheme is a way that we can help people on low or no income to pay their Council Tax bill.
“The scheme allows us to target support to the people who need it most by providing greater assistance to those on the lowest incomes.
“As always, we welcome views from all residents – whether they get Council Tax support or not. We also ask community groups and professionals working with our communities to ensure that we make a well-rounded and informed decision.
““We would like to know what people think of the scheme, even if they don’t receive Council Tax Support. Please take a few moments to complete the survey and have your say.”
Those who take part will also be asked for their views on SKDC’s Discretionary Payment Scheme. This offers additional short-term, limited support to those struggling to pay their Council Tax.
There are also proposals to continue to award exemptions for a further year to Special Constables and those leaving the care system.
The consultation closes on 30th September 2026.
