Views sought on Council Tax Support

South Kesteven District Council is conducting a review of its Council Tax Support Scheme to help low-income households.

Residents are invited to comment on whether they agree with the principles the Council uses to apply discretionary discounts to Council Tax bills and whether the scheme can be improved.

The level of support is calculated based on income and personal circumstances.

Cllr Ashley Baxter, Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Finance and Economic Development, said: “The Council Tax Support Scheme is a way of helping people on low or no income to pay their Council Tax bill.

“The scheme allows us to target support to the people who need it most by providing greater assistance to those on the lowest incomes.

“As always, we welcome views from all residents – whether they get Council Tax support or not. We’re also asking community groups and professionals working with our communities to ensure that we make a well-rounded and informed decision.

“Please take a few moments to complete the survey and have your say.”  

Those who take part will also be asked for their views on SKDC’s Discretionary Payment Scheme. This offers additional short-term, limited support to those struggling to pay their Council Tax.

There are also proposals to grant  exemptions for Special Constables and those leaving the care system.

The consultation closes on 30 September 2024.
