Works to upgrade the A52 Somerby Hill roundabout, including adding a new leg that connects to Grantham’s new relief road, have passed the midway point.
Cllr Richard Davies, executive member for highways, said: “Our upgrades to the A52 Somerby Hill roundabout are more than halfway complete, with work on the rest of the relief road’s third phase progressing well.
“Since starting work at Somerby Hill last September, the team’s main focus has been on the roundabout’s western side, including earthworks; installing drainage, ducting and tactile paving; and starting to lay new road surfacing.
“Over the coming months, the team will be shifting their attention to the east side of the roundabout ahead of installing new drainage; street lights and signs; topsoiling and seeding the area; and laying the final road surfacing and road markings.
“I want to thank everyone for bearing with us and the lane closures and temporary signals that have been use over the past few months.”
Below is list of the traffic management that will be in place over the coming months:
Ongoing – roundabout lane closures, with temporary signals used as and when required
Summer 2022 (dates TBC) – closures as needed, with full details provided closer to the time once dates and times have been finalised and agreed
Cllr Davies continued: “The rest of the team is hard at work elsewhere on site, including building the new rail bridge over the River Witham and East Coast Main Line, with a view to having the whole relief road opened by the end of 2023.”
