The former Prime Minister born and raised in Grantham is to be featured in a new TV biopic.
The life of Margaret Thatcher will air on ITV and feature a star from popular Netflix show The Crown.
The production is said to be in the early stages of development and is one of four to be produced on the story of her life.
Margaret Thatcher was born in Grantham in 1925 and spent her childhood in the town. She also attended Huntingtower Road Primary School and Kesteven and Grantham Girls’ School where she was head girl from 1942 to 1943. From there she went to Oxford University where she earned a degree in chemistry..
Her father, Alfred Roberts, was a town councillor and went on to become Mayor of Grantham. He also had corner shops in Huntingtower Road and North Parade.

The lead role for her biopic has been handed to Mum star Lesley Manville, According to the Mirror. Backing of the project is said to be a huge coup.
Speaking to The Sun, a source claimed: “Apart from the top casting, getting a huge channel like ITV backing the show is a huge vote of confidence in the project. It’s also something of a departure for ITV because other biopics featuring Maggie have tended to air on the BBC or Channel 4.”
They continued: “But this is a shrewd move for them as this is being mooted as a top quality drama, which is virtually guaranteed to be a hit with viewers.”

While they added that filming is “way off” they said they anticipated it could air on our screens by late 2025 if everything falls nicely into place. Any production will follow in the footsteps of other dramas set to be aired regarding Thatcher’s life, including Channel 4’s offering titled Channel 4, Brian and Margaret.
The drama will look at the final ever television interview of the former Prime Minister and journalist Brian Walden, with Steve Coogan taking on the role of Brian.
Mammoth Screen, who were the company behind BBC’s impressive Poldark, is also said to be working on a production since last year. Thatcher became Britain’s first female Prime Minster in 1979.
She secured her elections after winning a 44-seat majority. The ‘Iron Lady’ died in April 2013,. aged 87, at the The Ritz Hotel in London having suffered a stroke.
