On Friday 7th March at 13:30hrs, there will be a simple dedication ceremony in Wyndham Park for a yew tree donated by Cllr Charmaine Morgan, Civic Ambassador for Grantham, to commemorate those who suffered during the Covid 19 Pandemic.
She said: “This is a very special occaision and all are welcome to join us on the day.
“The yew is a native evergreen which can live up to 300 years and its symbolism is particularly apt.
“Representatives from Grantham Town Council and South Kesteven District Council will be joining us along with Lincolnshire County Council and our Police & Crime Commissioner.
“The dedication ceremony will provide an opportunity to publicly thank all who came together in our community to help others.”
A plaque has been provided to go with the tree, which was decorated on behalf of the Town Council and took part in St Wulfram’s Christmas Tree Festival December 2024. Fr Stuart Craddock will say words of dedication.
Cllr Morgan added: “We will also hear from the brother of a doctor serving at Pilgrim Hospital who was tragically one of our NHS staff members to die from Covid 19.
“We hope the tree will be a lasting reminder of what we all went through and somewhere people can go to quietly reflect.”
The plaque reads:
