Traffic management at Conduit Lane will be removed this Friday

September 11, 2024 by Grantham Matters Leave a Comment

Cllr Richard Davies, executive member for highways, said: “I’m really happy to say that the final closed off section of the Market Place area, at Conduit Lane, is set to re-open end-of-day Friday. That means people will have full access back to this area of Grantham come the weekend.

“Once re-opened, our contractor will have some very minor works left to do to the finish off the job. However, these will be hyper-localised, meaning there won’t be any road closures needed.

“I know this scheme has been a major headache for businesses and residents in the Market Place area, so I want to thank everyone for remaining patient throughout the project. We did everything we could to keep disruption to a minimum, including removing bollards to improve access for deliveries and maintaining access for pedestrians.

“Hopefully these little things helped take the edge off while the works were being carried out.”

Below are some facts and figures about the project:

•                    Over 48,000 new granite cobbles and Yorkstone setts laid, with a large number of the old cobbles donated to a local community project

•                    Over, 9,000 workforce hours spent on the works

•                    965 square metres of current paving removed

The following changes were carried out as part of the South Kesteven District Council-funded works:

•                    Raising the road level from the Conduit Lane pedestrian crossing and along Westgate/Market Place, between the existing raised crossings to link the existing pedestrian area

•                    Raising the exit to the short-term parking area

•                    Adding new stop lines at the traffic signals on Market Place and High Street

The Grantham Market Place project was fully funded by a portion of the £4.1 million of Grantham Future High Street Fund funding awarded to the South Kesteven District Council in 2020 by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities and the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government.

The next phase of the district council’s Future High Street Fund works being delivered by the county council are currently underway at the Station Road/A607 junction until this winter.
