The UK’s busiest speed cameras: Lincolnshire comes second!

January 10, 2025 by Grantham Matters Leave a Comment

England’s most prolific areas for speeding offences have been revealed and the area covered by Lincolnshire Police has the second highest number of offences per capita.

Data compiled by motoring experts at Quotezone.co.uk reveals the equivalent of around four in ten people receive a speeding ticket in the county, with one particular section of the M6 being most notorious for catching motorists out.

The data was gathered through Freedom of Information (FOI) requests sent to each of the 39 territorial police forces across England, with 29 forces responding.

This was then compiled by analysts at Quotezone to reveal the areas with the most offenders per capita, and which speed cameras in particular manage to catch the most lawbreakers.

Despite having the second smallest territorial police force in England after the City of London, Warwickshire was way out in front when it comes to the number of speeding offences per capita.

With a population of 554,002, and a total of 210,393 offences, the number of offences per capita is a staggering 38%, with the M6-M42 Southbound link in Water Orton being kept busiest.

Some way below Warwickshire and sitting in second place for most offences per capita is Lincolnshire. With 94,987 offences and a population of 750,000, Lincolnshire’s number of offences per capita sits at 12.7%, with the A153 in Anwick being the county’s busiest spot for speed cameras.

Below Lincolnshire to complete the top five is West Yorkshire, with 10.8% of offences per capita, followed by West Mercia with 9.5% and the Metropolitan Police Service with 8.5%.

Commenting on the data, Quotezone CEO and car insurance expert Greg Wilson says: “With such a high number of offences across different areas of the country it’s clear that speeding is still very much an issue that’s not going away anytime soon.

“For one area to record almost 4 in 10 of its population being caught speeding is quite shocking – speed limits are vital for everyone’s safety.

“Aside from any safety concerns, being caught speeding could also have financial implications, from fines, to penalty points and even court appearances.  Research suggests that just three points could raise your car insurance premium by an average of 5%. While six penalty points could push the cost of insurance up by an average of 25%.

“At a time when people may be struggling financially with escalating costs all around them – this additional hike in car insurance is the last thing anyone needs.

“It’s important for drivers to be safe, slow down and beware of the top ten regions prone to speeding tickets.”
