The Grantham area’s top garden is back in business following the coronavirus lockdown.
The Sweet Pea Season at Easton Walled Gardens is wonderful. Stunning displays of sweet peas, raised tenderly from seed in the greenhouses, pay tribute to the flowers in the meadows, roses and cream teas.
The whole garden is filled with the uplifting sights and sounds of summer. Easton has acquired a reputation for sweet peas and have been experimenting and growing 50 varieties for 20 years. We grow highly scented sweet peas, heritage or antique sweet peas, modern varieties and everything in between!
They have grown sweet peas since 2001; the first year growing one row. This year they will have up to 50 varieties including our favourites from the trial beds last summer. The now have a dedicated seedy production bed in the walled garden and in the cottage garden visitors can explore a symphony of colour and scents with heritage, modern, scented, striped, flaked and bicolour sweet peas on display.
Herbaceous displays fill the 80m Long Borders and Velvet Border and throughout the garden, roses are in flower and meadows provide an exuberant display attracting a variety of insects, mammals and birds amongst the grasses and wildflowers.
After exploring the 12 acres of serene gardens, visitors can browse the plant sales in the Courtyard, all plants are chosen carefully and are really healthy.
Garden Owner Ursula Cholmeley commented: ‘We are delighted to be able to open in time for the sweet pea season and have extended the usual week to three weeks to ensure a more relaxed, spacious experience for our visitors. We are looking forward to welcoming everyone back and appreciate our visitors support and understanding while we have been making plans to reopen.’
The gardens will be re-opening for everyone 23rd June – 12th July, Tuesday to Sunday, 10.30am – 4pm.
Admission is £7.95 for adults and £3.75 for children 4-16yrs
