Super draw for council’s community lottery

January 27, 2025 Leave a Comment

LotterySK is offering ticket holders the chance to win ‘A Year of Adventures’ or £1,000 in cash – for just £1 a week.

The super draw started on 27 January and closes on Saturday 22nd February.

The prize includes a family railcard and Merlin Annual Pass for free access to the UK’s biggest and best attractions.

It’s the latest special draw from South Kesteven District Council’s community lottery – raising almost £327,000 for local causes in the last six years.

Good causes receive 60p from each £1 lottery ticket and a weekly draw offers the chance to win £25,000.

Cllr Paul Stokes, SKDC Deputy Leader said: “Our lottery delivers much needed income for charities and community groups across the district. Its simple to register and it’s very rewarding to see what a difference it’s making to community life.”

Recent lottery sign-ups and already benefitting from ticket sale income are the Thorold Arms community group in Marston and Men in Sheds in the Deepings – both helping to support community life and preventing social isolation.

The Thorold Arms pub was bought through community shares and re-opened in 2019. It’s been refurbished and is now a Community Hub including the pub with restaurant and quiz nights, outreach Post Office, a book club, shop and two B and B guest bedrooms.

With more than 70 lottery tickets holders, they are fast approaching their initial £2,600 target towards running costs.

In The Deepings, Men in Sheds members are supporting another important community, meeting every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Mostly retired, their backgrounds range from architecture, electrics and carpentry to accounting. The Shed allows them to pool talents and skills on projects, tackle community requests and help others to learn at their Swires Garden Centre base in Market Deeping – all helped by a cup of tea in good company.
