Summer swimming sessions restored at The Meres

Swimming pool users have been given a boost with the news that a limited number of sessions at The Meres Leisure Centre in Grantham are back on – after initial fears of a full temporary closure of all pools for renovation work.

South Kesteven District Council has worked with their management company LeisureSK Ltd to agree that some sessions within the main pool can continue. The changing rooms will remain out of use due to refurbishment works and swimmers will be expected to come ‘swim ready’.

Limited access for some clubs and groups is being made available, along with lane swimming in the main pool and the Swim School programme.

Work to improve changing facilities is taking place across all three of South Kesteven District Council’s leisure centres across the district, with the first phase – at Stamford Leisure Pool – due to conclude this week.

Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure, Cllr Paul Stokes, who is also Deputy Leader of the Council, said: “I am delighted that we have been able to work with LeisureSK Ltd to achieve such a positive result for swimming pool users.

“Swimming and sports clubs that use the main pool, as well as Swim School pupils, are now able to maintain continuity.

“Each specific activity will be risk-assessed and there may be a reduced capacity on numbers attending – this is a much better result than we originally anticipated.”

The Meres leisure pools and learner pool will be temporarily closed due to additional maintenance work being carried out.

Work at Grantham Meres will take place between 29th July and 3rd September to allow a deep clean, repairs, replacements, including new cubicles, and renovation to showers, ceiling and lighting and communal areas.

Dry side gyms, courts, meeting rooms and other facilities will remain fully open throughout.

Bourne Leisure Centre refurbishment is planned to start during the week ending September 4th, when there will be temporary mixed changing facilities in place to allow the pool and activities to remain open.
