As many people plan to spend their summer in the East Midlands, we’re launching a campaign to help ensure people have a safe and healthy staycation.
With four large cities, the Peak District, a lengthy coastline and several country parks, it’s no wonder people want to visit the East Midlands.
However, demand on EMAS can increase particularly when visitor numbers to the region increase.
As we and the wider NHS system continue to be incredibly busy, we are urging the public to play their part in supporting our hardworking call takers in our control rooms and ambulance clinicians out on the road, by taking sensible precautions this summer.
Our summer campaign includes articles and videos about key topics on our website and social media which aim to empower our residents and visitors to take the necessary steps to keep themselves safe and well.
These top tips include:
being prepared to deal with minor ailments when going on a staycation by stocking up on first aid kit essentials
making sure to take prescription medications with you and knowing what to do if you require additional prescription medication when you are away
what to do to avoid heat stroke when out enjoying the sunshine
taking careful consideration of your surroundings when walking in the countryside
downloading the what3words app so you can let the emergency services know where they are in an undescriptive location (such as a field or on a beach).
Sue Cousland, General Manager for the Lincolnshire Division of EMAS said: “Time is critical in an emergency, and identifying the correct location is vitally important.
“If a member of the public is unsure of their location when calling 999 then our call handlers will advise the use of What3Words so they can pinpoint the exact location.
“Lincolnshire can get exceptionally busy during the summer months as the county is home to two major seaside resorts and 50 miles of coastline, so we urge people to download what3words on their phones to help us locate you as quickly as possible in an emergency.”
We officially launched our summer safety campaign on 16 July 2021 across our website and social media channels. Please feel free to have a look at the articles we have produced so far that you can lift and share with your own dedicated audiences, so we can get the message far and wide that having a safe summer is having an enjoyable summer.
