The free Summer Reading Challenge is now back for children aged 4-11. This year, children can explore their creativity with the theme ‘Marvellous Makers’.

To get involved:

  • Go to your core library this summer to join the free challenge
  • Sign up to receive your Marvellous Makers collector folder
  • Choose books to read over the holidays
  • Collect stickers to add to your folder and other rewards for each book you read
  • Complete the challenge and you’ll get your own medal and certificate

There will also be free weekly creative activities for children to get involved in, from junk modelling to musical instrument making.

To help young readers choose from the thousands of brilliant books Lincolnshire Libraries have on offer, you can find a few of our favourites from the Marvellous Makers collection below. All titles are gathered here https://bit.ly/LLStaffPicks  so you can reserve them for free to collect from your local library.

I am Nefertiti – by Annemarie Anang, Natelle Quek

When Nefertiti plays the drums, the band plays as one. ‘I am Nefertiti’ she says, and she feels 10ft tall. But when the new music teacher shortens her name to ‘Nef’, bit by bit, she starts to shrink. Without Nefertiti to keep the beat, the band is in disarray. With the support of the other children, they help Miss Potts recognise the importance of honouring Nefertiti’s name.

Available in book format.

Trixie Pickle, Art Avenger – by Olaf Falafel

Trixie loves art and hates bullies, and so decides to become an Art Avenger, righting wrongs at her school through art. She uses Picasso, Pollock and Ofili to teach bullies a lesson, and help those in need, like an arty Robin Hood.

Michael the Amazing Mind-Reading Sausage Dog – by Terrie Chilvers

Michael is desperate to be a su-paw-star! His newfound talent of mind-reading might be his ticket to Hollywoof, but it’s not as simple a life as Michael had dreamed. A rival show has started and it’s up to him and his new friends to create a brilliant show, win back fans, and save the theatre.
