GRANTHAM-born Margaret Thatcher has had a statue to her unveiled in the Falkland Islands.
The tribute to the Iron Lady, who led Britain into the 1982 conflict with Argentina, was revealed yesterday.
Islanders said they wanted one as a memorial to the former PM after she died in 2013.
They commissioned sculptor Steve Masson to carry out the work, at a cost of £40,000.
IT was unveiled on Saturday by her son Sir Mark Thatcher, in Thatcher Drive, in the islands’ capital Stanley
Argentinian politicians are said to be fuming at the move.
A £200,000 appeal to erect a statue on Grantham’s St Peter’s Hill was launched two years ago.
Helen Goral, of the appeal organisers, said: “The board have decided not to release exact figures at this stage. We are well on the way to realising the amount we need, however still have some way to go.”
