Deputy Governance and Quality Lead from St Barnabas Hospice, Sally Finch, has been awarded one of the first-ever Community Nursing Cavell Star Awards.
The award was given to Sally for her outstanding nurse leadership and the work she put into developing the Lincolnshire Palliative End of Life Care Website for both the public and professionals.
A National Webinar was held on Friday 24th June to celebrate the award winners supported by Chief Nursing Officer, England, Ruth May and Cavell Nurses Trust CEO, John Orchard.
The Community Nursing Cavell Start Award is sponsored by NHS England and Improvement and is open to all nurses that are part of the National Community Nursing Plan. The aim of the award is to recognise and celebrate community nursing and all of the diverse professionals within the group that carry out such vital duties each day to provide care within the communities.
The website Sally helped to develop is designed not to give medical advice but to give information on a wide range of topics aimed at health and social care professionals as well as members of the public who are supporting people towards the end of life. You can visit the website at www.eolc.co.uk/.
Nurse Consultant at St Barnabas, Kerry Bareham, said: “Hospice Nurses are an essential part of the highly skilled Community Nursing Family. It is wonderful that Sally’s compassionate leadership and hard work have been recognised by this prestigious national Cavell Star Award.”
Deputy Governance and Quality Lead for St Barnabas, Sally Finch, said: “I’m humbled and surprised to receive this award and truly honoured. It is a privilege to work in such a dedicated team that strives to give the best possible palliative care to patients and families in Lincolnshire.”
The nomination window for these awards opens twice a year for two weeks in March and September with a celebratory event for those receiving awards held at the virtual Community Nursing Practitioners Network.
The inspiring national awards programme recognises nurses, midwives, nursing associates and healthcare assistants who show outstanding care to either their colleagues, their patients or the patients’ families.
Healthcare professionals within the nursing community can use the nomination form at www.cavellnursestrust.org/cavell-star-awards/#form to nominate a colleague of their choice within the community to win a Cavell Star Award.
