A Spitfire and Hurricane from BBMF will fly low over Grantham just after midday on Saturday, to salute a pilot who was killed near the town 92 years ago.
The flypast at 12.30pm, will commemorate 26-year-old Flying Officer Robin Jaques had died when his Avro 504 K aircraft crashed in the field between Cold Harbour and Old Somerby, in August 1923.
He left a widow and two young children, one of whom, 18-month-old Josephine Edwina Jaques became favourite film & TV comedy actress Hattie Jacques.
On Saturday, at Grantham cemetery, a suitably engraved Portland Stone headstone will be unveiled in his memory.
The event will start at 12.15 hours and Brian Lucas (Retired Air Vice Marshal and Chaplain of RAF) will conduct a short Service of remembrance.
The RAFA, Royal British Legion, Burma Veterans will parade with their Colours and 47F ATC will be in attendance.
Other Retired Members of Royal Air Force and other Services are expected to attend.

So, what happened to the flypast ???? Myself and several others congregated on Hall’s Hill and in the Cemetery at around noon and waited. The published time, 12.30 came and went. By 1pm I gave up and came home – no sign of the two planes.
