Grantham train-spotters had an unexpected treat today, when one of the top steam locos passed through.
Hundreds of people have turned out in Lincoln and Sleaford to see the Flying Scotsman pass through the county at around 11am on its way to Didcot Railway Centre.
There, the famous locomotive will be in action on Saturday, Sunday and Monday providing rides in vintage carriages on the main demonstration line.
But instead, just after midday, the route had been changed sending it through Newark and Grantham.
And a couple of hours later, another famous loco – albiet a but more modern – stopped at Grantham station.
It was the brand new Hitachi, Queen Elizabeth II, QEII, or number 800 003, launched in June this year.
