soundLINCS has received a National Lottery Heritage Fund grant of £78,000 for an exciting partnership project, Future of the Past, to work with young people and cultural facilitators to creatively interpret Lincolnshire’s heritage
Supported through The National Lottery Heritage Fund, and made possible by National Lottery players, this two year project will bring together a range of key partners working together from the university, cultural, arts and heritage sectors delivering projects across Lincolnshire. (These organisations are listed in the supplementary notes below.)
Supported by staff and volunteers, young people aged 11-18 will engage with seven heritage sites across the county to develop and deliver a programme through reinterpreting heritage from the youth’s perspective. This will help enable our heritage to become more engaging and accessible for future audiences.
Future of the Past will be supported by arts and heritage specialists with expertise in training and skills building. The project will encourage young people to stay involved with their local heritage site after the project has finished, building in sustainability for the future.
Commenting on the award, Nikki-Kate Heyes MBE (CEO), said:
“We are thrilled to have received this support thanks to National Lottery players and are confident the project will support young people to be active citizens with pride in their heritage.
We see the Future of the Past as a two year pilot project for a much larger regional programme, therefore, in addition to the data collection and analysis required by our funders – The National Lottery Heritage Fund, Lincolnshire County Council and Museum Development East Midlands – the project team will be looking to evaluate the model of working, so we can learn more about the process and how well it works and to learn lessons”.
