A refurbishment of Bourne Bus Station’s shelters has resulted in a brighter, safer area for passengers.
The work, carried out on behalf of South Kesteven District Council by Shelter Maintenance Ltd, saw repainting, removal of graffiti, replacement of damaged glass and replacement of some roof sections at North Road.
Artwork from local schools will soon form part of the bright and cheerful decoration.
Passengers can travel from Bourne to Lincoln, Stamford, the Deepings, Peterborough, Spalding, Sleaford and villages in between.
Cabinet Member for Property, Cllr Richard Cleaver, said: “The bus shelter and its surrounding area was worn and dilapidated due to its age and a lack of care in recent years. It has also suffered some vandalism to the glass panes and roof panels.
“It is a relatively small intervention but in a location that’s really visible and very well used, and forms part of the route into town for so many people.
“As part of our work towards climate change targets, we are in a position to shape people’s transport decisions, and hope work like this will encourage greater use of our popular public transport options.
“This work will very much help promote our district as an attractive place to visit, work, invest, study and do business.”
Bourne District Councillor Helen Crawford was instrumental in securing the refurbishment.
She said: “In my role as an SKDC ward member for Bourne and as a Bourne town councillor, I felt it was important to complete this work for the safety and comfort of bus users in the town. We are all pleased with the completed project and hope the public will help it stay this way.”

Meanwhile, Lincolnshire County Council is expecting electronic departure information boards to be installed in all three bus stations operated by SKDC – in Grantham, Bourne and Stamford – by the end of November.
