New council housing in Bourne is a step nearer completion with foundations, floors and timber frames now in place.
The Meadow Close project of four flats and three bungalows is part of South Kesteven District Council’s housing strategy to build much needed homes across the district.
SKDC Leader, Cllr Kelham Cooke, who visited the site this week, said: “Quality housing is essential for everyone, and South Kesteven District Council is committed to working with our partners to provide new homes that people want and need.
“Our Corporate Strategy sets out our ambition to increase the supply of high quality, sustainable council housing and we are taking strides along that path with important developments in the pipeline for Trinity Road in Stamford and Larch Close in Grantham and other key locations.
“Developing new homes in line with housing demand also helps to free up other, larger properties within the SKDC stock to ensure more of our residents have somewhere to live that suit their needs.
“Homes are a fundamental part of our lives and should be ‘healthy’, good quality, sustainable and secure, providing the environment for people to thrive and achieve for generations to come.”
Cabinet Member for Housing and Property, Cllr Robert Reid said: “I was pleased to be here when the first shovel of earth was turned and it’s wonderful to see how much work has been done in such a short space of time.
“We are using modern building techniques to get things moving and this is only the start: SKDC is ready to provide more high-quality homes for people who rent property from the council and residents will see the process move through consultation, planning, building and allocation of affordable housing in the coming months.
“We are committed to building all homes to the Lifetime Homes standard supporting the needs of residents now and in the future.
“These new homes will be built for energy efficiency to ensure a responsible benchmark for housing, as well as lowering running costs for residents. They are a mix of sizes to ensure the site is suitable to accommodate the variety of needs highlighted by demand.”
The Meadow Close project, in partnership with D Brown Building Contractors Ltd, is set to be complete by April 2022. The land is owned by SKDC and currently used for parking. Five more new homes will follow in Stamford.
The properties will be allocated to those on the housing register and follow recent successful SKDC developments in Kinoulton Court and at Earlesfield Lane, both in Grantham.
