A spectacular light night is coming to South Kesteven as one of the highlights in a series of free events to inspire, invigorate and educate – and welcome residents and visitors back to our high streets.
South Kesteven District Council’s Arts and Cultural Services team are taking family events out into the district’s four main towns in February half term and March, supported by the Government’s Welcome Back fund.
Bourne in Lights (Saturday 19 March, 6pm-9pm)will host a colourful evening of lights, projections, and illuminated entertainment to celebrate Bourne and its communities.
Sparkling light sculptures, illuminated live performances and large-scale projections will form a backdrop for the culmination of the beautiful community butterfly project, with input from local schoolchildren. There’s also the chance to join in with some digital graffiti and make some sound and rhythms on the Marvellous Mechanical Musical Machine!
Buildings will be floodlit, and visitors can interact with the invisible man and his scientist, with a beautiful interactive sculptural light installation by Illumaphonium also among the highlights.
Cabinet Member for Culture and Visitor Economy, Cllr Rosemary Trollope-Bellew, said: “Prepare to be dazzled by this brilliant night for the town! We’re hoping to attract residents and visitors from near and far to see all we have to offer.
“The Welcome Back Fund is providing the platform we need to raise the profile of Bourne and we’ll be engaging with schools and community groups to get the word out and bring the success it deserves.
“This is only one part of our local cultural offering in South Kesteven this springtime, so look out for the other events, including our Arts Around Town events and a Grantham Youth Fest.”
This completely free Bourne in Lights event will take over North Street, which will be closed to traffic from 3pm with a trail for people to follow, as shops, pubs and food outlets stay open late.
