Poplar Farm Primary School has achieved the School Games Gold Mark Award for the 2022/23 academic year.
The School Games Mark is a government led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.
Sporting achievements this year include taking part in the Grantham School’s Swimming Gala and Cross-Country Competition for the first time as a school. They also came third in the local Panathlon.
With a total of over 50 young people competing in local inter-school competitions this year, they are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made their competitions possible.
As part of their application, they were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.
Kate Hodson, Headteacher said: “We are delighted to have been recognised for our School Games achievements. The children thoroughly enjoy participating in events and sharing their experiences and achievements with the school community. We’ll need to buy a bigger trophy cabinet soon!
“A special thank you to Mrs Wright, Mr Saunders and Mrs Thorpe for their time, work and dedication in ensuring the children can take part in so many competitions.
“We look forward to applying once again in 2024.”
