THE finishing touches are being completed for Wyndham Park’s new paddling pool in Grantham with the help of a local community group.
The Rotary Club of Grantham and the Rotary Foundation Charity have generously donated eight new benches for the facility which will accompany the pool’s new look and features.
The blue and brown seating complete with Rotary International and Rotary Swimarathon emblems carved into its cast iron ends will sit alongside the newly designed spray park and pool style facility.
Partners including Wyndham Park Forum, SKDC, grant funders WREN and contractors RWH Construction are set to meet to open the new facility and benches in the near future.
Mos Kalbassi, President of the Rotary Club of Grantham said: “We’re delighted to donate these new benches to compliment the park and paddling pool which we hope will be enjoyed by generations to come.”
Rotarian Roger Graves who led the 25th Anniversary Rotary Swimarathon said: “Rotary is keen to work with the local community and highlighted the new pool as the perfect opportunity to celebrate the 25th Anniversary.
“By donating the benches we know they will be constantly used and children paddling today will participate in the Rotary Swimarathon in future years.”
The pool will open for residents and visitors to enjoy in full from next spring.
SKDC’s portfolio holder for leisure, arts and culture Coun Bob Adams said: “We were mindful to complete work on the new pool outside the peak season to ensure those who enjoy it were not inconvenienced.
“We thank the Rotary Club of Grantham for their exceptionally kind donation of the benches which will add another great feature to the new pool.”
A successful application to WREN (Waste Recycling Environmental Ltd) in November 2013 resulted in £42,871 being awarded towards the £80,000 project Rotary Club of Grantham members from left: Stephen Short, Irvin Metcalf, Roger Graves, Mike Gaffney and John Cussell
