Robert Holland is looking for a piece of his school days

July 15, 2026 Leave a Comment

Robert Holland says,

Hi everyone, I’m trying to find an old boys central school cap, they were brown in colour and had a BCS badge in yellow letters. I had one in 1969 on my first day at school, I never wore it again!

I now occasionally give talks entitled ‘a man of many hats’ and would love to have a boys central school cap to complete my presentation.

If anyone has one that they’d be prepared to lend me I would be very grateful.

THESE lads were in Form III at the Boys’ Central School, Hill Avenue (now home to Little Gonerby School) in 1934. Founded in 1928, the headmaster was Sammy Thorpe at the time, who in common with most of the heads was very keen on sport. It was sent in by Ted Squires,. Apart from himself (sitting first left) he can only recall the names of Jim Thorpe (the tall lad in the middle) and Tony Teague (umpire left). Tony’s father used to keep a sweet shop in George Street, which eventually was taken over by printer Tommy Pestell.
