Road to close for three months

Westborough Lane in Long Bennington will be closed from 17 November, so repairs to the bridge can be carried out.

The bridge deck will be replaced and widened, and the parapets upgraded, making it safer for drivers and pedestrians.

The works will be carried out over approximately three months, during which the bridge will be closed. Notifications will be posted two weeks before the start of the works and a signed diversion will be in place throughout.

Area Highways Manager Mark Heaton said: “The road must remain closed during these works because of the area’s topography, the road layout, and the bridge being relatively narrow. Closing the bridge will ensure the safety of the public and the contractors carrying out the work.

“We’re also taking this opportunity to carry out structural repairs to Westborough Lane during the closure, reducing any future delays in this area.”
