A children’s recovery area at United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust has undergone a makeover to help further improve patient experience.
The paediatric recovery area in Lincoln County Hospital’s theatres department has been given a bright new child-friendly feel that has been carefully thought out to appeal to children of all ages, parents, grandparents, carers and the staff who work with them.
Morag Forbes, team leader, spent time considering how a theme might best be applied to the decoration and after consultation with colleagues decided to compliment the themes of the children’s wards Safari and Rainforest.
The area received a coat of paint and then staff nurses Sara Whiteley, Rachel Macrae and Laura Shale set to work applying some fun decals that bring the area to life.
Combined with new cupboards, a revised layout and improved flow, staff have been able to increase the efficiency of the unit which in turn has improved the patient experience.
Operational Services Manager Stephen Pitwell said, “Now tropical plants, monkeys and butterflies dance across the walls bringing a feel good factor to all. A patient recently commented that although she had a passion for elephants, the monkeys were really fab.
“Very young children are comforted when a nurse points out the funny faces, helping them to recover quietly and calmly.”
