Grantham Rivercare are back with their winter reset and wanted to share the impressive results from 2024.
Last year was a record-breaker! RiverCare & BeachCare volunteers collected a whopping 3,479 bags of litter – a 929-bag increase over 2023!
Food packaging remained the top offender.
Smoking/vaping litter saw a concerning rise.
Fishing debris, clothes, and balloons also contributed significantly.
Grantham’s local heroes collected an impressive 1232.5 bags of litter through group and individual efforts.
Top offenders: Plastic bottles (2311), vaping items (1290), cans (1113), and glass bottles (317).
Its incredible volunteers dedicated 72,734 minutes (1212 hours, or 50.5 days!) to cleaning up our riverside and local community over 15,170 minutes (252 hours or 10.5 days)
They promise continue to collect detailed data on items like plastic/glass bottles and cans.
Crucially, they’ll track vaping litter numbers to see the impact of the upcoming disposable vape ban.
