Recognise any of these Grantham scouts?

June 26, 2024 by Grantham Matters Leave a Comment

HEALTH and safety geeks would freak out at the sight of these young scouts travelling from Grantham to Scarborough in the back of a lorry.
It was 7th Grantham St John’s arriving at their summer camp in 1955.
But they didn’t all go in the back of Rickets of Ancaster’s truck John Kemp, son of the legendary ‘Cub’ Kemp, cycled along the old A1. The former Journal reporter is third from right, next to Colin Duller, with Tony Duller far right. In front of them is Jeffery Willers.
In the middle of the truck is Russell Read, scout commissioner and owner of Read’s Laundry.
The picture was from in by Colin Duller, of West Horsham, Salisbury
