What a fine photo! I recognise a lot of the surnames! and knew many of their relations! known as “pelters” in the day? to do with pelting??? rocks?? stones at the clock on the Church? WhenI was employed @B&B Garages 77 to 84 Walter one of my bosses always reckond original “Pelters” was from Saltby? I remember Saltby? but for life of me’ cannot recall a church clock? Walt just used to say during the day? whoever whatever during the day’ at work? his Dad was a “pelter” or he was? or his Dad Bro cousin was pelters! these were just folk that was customers in the day passing through a busy Garage in the day!! Then later I heard Gonerby folk was “Pelters”? I just guess many villages? had pelters! I do remember Walter on about Saltby pelters tho’ bless him! Tony.
