A pub on the side of the A1 south of Grantham could be demolished, if owners’ plans go ahead.
The Fox Roadside Services Ltd have proposed in plans submitted to SKDC for the Fox pub and restaurant in South Witham to be demolished along with the OK Diner next door and the disused former Abacus bus depot.
The owners plan build a petrol station and a 40-bed hotel in their place.
The Fox pub has always been popular among truckers although the planning application says the pub and restaurant are operating “well below its capacity.”
A post on the Fox’s Facebook page read: “It’s with a heavy heart I have to inform everyone that The Fox is being sold and plans have gone into the council to demolish the whole site.
“We are absolutely gutted as you all know what it has taken to make The Fox one of the good old truckstops that you drivers deserve.
“However, we will be running the truckstop right up until the plans get passed or the sale goes through and then we will close the doors.
“I will keep you all informed of any developments.
“On behalf of myself and my team, Ma, Kev, Carly, Kieron and Sharon, thank you for all of your support and please continue to use us as I would like to keep all the staff on until the very end.
“Get your Fox fix while you can.”
The Fox was one of the places to go in the early 70’s with its disco, along with that other place to head for on a night out the Red House
Very sad to see it go, some very happy memories, some good nights out
