The Grantham oak is over 400 years old. It’s currently under threat of having its roots damaged by residents parking on them, or driving over them. The tree is very special to local residents who have been instrumental in helping to protect it.
It’s on the Woodland Trust Ancient Tree Register and is also one of 40 special trees of interest in Lincolnshire.
In December 2018 the Woodland Trust worked with South Kesteven District Council to survey the roots with radar and to put up posts and rope to offer some protection to the tree.
On 25 March a grass protection mesh will be installed to allow vehicles to safely drive around the outer edge of the tree without causing impaction to the roots beneath.
